GOVERNMENT OF INDIA INVITES PLATFORM AGGREGATORS TO REGISTER THEMSELVES AND THEIR PLATFORM WORKERS ON E-SHRAM PORTAL

The Ministry of Labour & Employment is making significant strides in expanding social security benefits for gig and platform workers. As part of this initiative, the Ministry is inviting platform aggregators to register their workers on the e-Shram portal, a critical step toward ensuring access to social welfare schemes. Union labour minister has directed aggregator platforms to onboard all eligible gig workers on the e-Shram Portal within three months.

e-Shram is a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) launched by the Government of India under the Ministry of Labour & Employment. Its primary purpose is to facilitate delivery of welfare benefits and social security measures to unorganised sector workers across the country.

To facilitate this process, the Ministry has issued an advisory that includes a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) detailing the responsibilities of aggregators. Key tasks include registering workers, updating their information, and maintaining accurate records. Upon successful registration, platform workers will receive a Universal Account Number (UAN), granting them access to essential social security benefits.

The Central Government, in collaboration with several platform aggregators, has successfully tested API integration, paving the way for a smoother registration process. This partnership aims for comprehensive coverage of gig workers, with ongoing collaboration between the Ministry and the aggregators.

Aggregators are also required to regularly update details related to workers, including work engagements and payments. Additionally, any exits from the platform must be reported promptly to ensure accurate records are maintained.

To support the onboarding process for both workers and aggregators, a toll-free helpline (14434) has been established. This helpline offers information, guides registration, and assists with any technical issues that may arise.

We look forward to the successful implementation of these measures, ensuring that gig and platform workers receive the social security benefits they deserve.
