Mumbai Police Commissioner prohibits construction activity between 10 PM – 6 AM

The newly appointed Police Commissioner of Mumbai has prohibited construction activity in the city between 10 PM to 6 AM in a bid to curb noise pollution. The decision was taken pursuant to a meeting held with prominent builders in the city in order to tackle high decibel levels due to construction activity at late hours.

The press note released by the Mumbai Police lays down a plan of action to tackle the menace.

  • As per the directions of the High Court, working hours would be from 06.00 am to 10.00 pm only
  • Noise prevention sheets shall be installed at the construction site and care should be taken that decibels do not exceed the norm.
  • Uniforms of assigned security guards should not be similar to traffic police.
  • Security guards should be deployed only at the construction site and not on main roads.
  • A board should be put up at the construction site and it should contain information about the working time and duration of work
